Hackett – 50 years plus: Story of a north Canberra suburb
Dr Andrew Leigh, Federal Member for Fenner and resident of Hackett, officially launched the book ‘Hackett – 50 years plus: Story of a north Canberra suburb’ at the 'Party at the Shops' event on 27 October 2018.
HCA members and contributors have been working on this book for a number of years and are proud to see this comprehensive historical record of Hackett finally come into being.
We have sold all copies of the book but we have an eBook version which can be downloaded for $15.00.
You can pay by Paypal or major credit cards by clicking on the PayPal image below.
We will consider reprinting the book in early 2019 if we receive at least 100 orders. To lodge your interest, simply email Chris Mobbs with your address and contact details at firstname.lastname@example.org

By the way – we also removed the broken piece of chipboard that was hanging in the metal frame (once was a notice board) in the garden on the north side of IGA. We will remove the rust, repaint it and hopefully it can be used for something interesting – perhaps a mosaic tile picture?…
The HCA hosted another Clean-up Australia Day on Sunday 3 March and what a fantastic response. We had 23 adults and 12 children participate this year. Through their efforts, around 20 bags of rubbish were collected from across the suburb – well done! Hackett has never looked so clean. Let’s aim to keep it this…
Music in the Park will be held this Sunday, March 3 in the Bragg Street Park in Hackett, commencing around 3pm. Bring along a chair, a glass of wine and your family and friends, and relax to some local live music. Cheers John and Christy 0447 069 317
The next meeting of the Hackett Community Association is on Tuesday 12 March 2019 at 7.30pm in the room on the right hand end of the hall at Blue Gum school. You are most welcome to come along.
During August to October 2018, the ACT Government held community consultative forums as part of developing its Better Suburbs Statement https://www.yoursay.act.gov.au/BetterSuburbs. One of the priority areas was looking at improved play spaces across all suburbs. The Better Suburbs Play Spaces Forum comprised community representatives from across Canberra. It made recommendations for the allocation of $1.9…
The HCA, in conjunction with shop owners, is developing a plan with a number of proposals that would improve the whole shopping precinct. The plan relies on a cooperative approach by the HCA, businesses and the ACT Government. The plan is still in its draft form and has yet to be submitted to the ACT…
As you would be aware, the Savoulidis brothers are busily working on revamping Wilbur’s to provide a great new eating venue at the shops. As part of this work they have very kindly donated to the HCA, 35 chairs from Wilbur’s. Most are in good condition. The HCA will be selling these chairs for $10…
The HCA is hosting another Clean-up Australia Day in Hackett this year. Unfortunately there are some parts of the suburb where people drop rubbish such as Antill St, Phillip Avenue, Kellaway St carpark, around the shops, and under the trees adjacent to the oval – there may be others. Please come along and register at…
Written submissions should be lodged by close of business on Friday, 22 February 2019. The ACT Legislative Assembly is conducting an inquiry into “drone delivery systems in the ACT” inquire-into-drone-delivery-systems-in-the-act. You may be aware that a trial has been underway in Bonython for several months. The same company running the Bonython trial is planning to…
Do you have a solid wooden table that you no longer use, similar to the one below? We are looking for such a table that could be used temporarily in one of the parks in Hackett. Please email Chris Mobbs email@example.com
